The company Victorinox - In 1884, Karl Elsener opened his cutler's workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. At that time, Switzerland was still one of the poorest countries in Europe. In the early years, Karl Elsener worked to combat poverty and unemployment in the Schwyz basin by creating jobs and helping to prevent emigration. In 1891, he supplied the Swiss Army with the soldier's knife for the first time. This was followed by the development of the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife, now known as the iconic Swiss Army Knife, in 1897. This laid the foundation for a successful company that could compete on the global stage.
